Whilst the ambience might have been virtual, the recognition still remained highly reputed, as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) held their prize winners awards ceremony on the 25th of August 2021, to recognise the affiliates who completed the ACCA exams and honour the prize winners who accomplished top scores in the ACCA examinations.
Bringing much pride to both ACCA and Sri Lanka were a host of high achievers that included eleven Sri Lankan prize-winners for September 2019 examinations, seventeen Sri Lankan prize winners for December 2019, twelve Sri Lankan prize winners for March 2020, eleven Sri Lankan prize-winners for September 2020, twelve Sri Lankan prize winners for December 2020 and thirteen Sri Lankan prize for March 2021 examinations.
Prestigious world prizes were awarded for Advanced Financial Management (September 2019), Financial Reporting (December 2019), Advanced Performance Management (December 2020), Financial Management (December 2020), Strategic Business Leader (March 2021), Financial Management (March 2021), to Fathima Azeeza Mohamed Yaseen, Fathima Shukra Shumsdeen, Mohamed Fahim Farhan Ahamed, Rishan Rasikeen and Indeepa Vidushan Maddumage respectively.
ACCA Sri Lanka was honoured to announce, Fathima Azeeza Mohamed Yaseen as the top affiliate for September 2019 session with the global bronze medal.

Other Sri Lankan top affiliates commended at the event were, Osanda Amarasinghe for December 2019, Maryam Jameel for March 2020, Navin Karunadasa for September 2020, Tharindhi Jayawardena for December 2020 and Mohamed Inham Ilyas for March 2021examinations.
Helen Brand, Chief Executive of ACCA explaining the significance of celebrating this landmark achievement, described that the ACCA members are prized for their expertise, their ability to synthesis knowledge from across the whole spectrum of disciplines within the profession and the ethical lens they bring to all areas of finance and business. She commended that the completion of each exam was an achievement by itself saying that, “as we all move into recovery mode, ACCA members have to help the organisations they work for to survive and thrive.”
Ms.Nilusha Ranasinghe, the Head of South Asia for ACCA said, “Each year, we see many ACCA affiliates and students excelling in their exams and this latest group of high achievers have done Sri Lanka proud.” She described the prize winner awards as a modest token of honour granted by ACCA towards the academic achievements of their affiliates.
She further affirmed that each member helped ACCA reinforce the truth that its qualification is indeed one of the best in the world and is consequently in high demand by global employers. She encouraged the members to make the finest advantage of the knowledge gathered in order to make a significant contribution towards Sri Lankan businesses and emphasised that being ambassadors and advocates of ACCA meant there was the tremendous expectation of upholding the values of ACCA, which are accountability, diversity, opportunity, innovation and integrity.
Echoing these sentiments, Mr. Nandika Buddhipala, Chairman of the Member Network Panel of Sri Lanka stated that as ethical, honest and accountable ACCA professionals they will need to keep their eyes on the long term values and engage in efforts to create value for Sri Lankan businesses and it’s economy.
Guest Speaker at the event, Mr. Darshana Gunasekera, Group Finance Director – MJF Group speaking emphasised that ACCA Sri Lanka has been instrumental in training & upskilling Sri Lanka’s accounting professionals to be valued members of the global finance and accounting fraternity. He further affirmed that the ACCA qualification covers not just an accounting qualification but one that moulds an all-around business professional with a strong grounding in Finance & Accounting and congratulated all the past finalists and the prize winners for working towards and achieving this renowned qualification. This prize winners ceremony exemplified ACCA’s continued contribution to producing strategic thinking accountants to meet the dynamics of the modern business world. It remains committed to building a qualification that meets the emerging trends in accountancy and is positioned today as undoubtedly one of the most trusted and sought-after accounting qualifications across the globe, that is respected and accredited by both employers and the industry.
